292  Sphaerocobaltite on Calcite with Carrollite Shinkolobwe Mine (Kasolo Mine), Shinkolobwe, Central area, Shaba Cu belt, Shaba (Katanga), Congo (Zaïre) miniature 3.7 x 2.5 x 2.7 cm Pat: e is a rare and remarkable rock, the likes of which I've never seen before. Salrose from the Congo is usually associated with a dolomite matrix, but on this rock, the vivid magenta salrose crowns a glassy group of calcite crystals, accented by two xceptionally rare carrollite crystals embedded in the calcite. The color is unbelievably intense. I've never seen another specimen like this one, with this combo of minerals. ----- Photos courtesy of / ©2004 Patricia B. Smith label Mineral Occurances
