420  Rhodochrosite N'Chwaning I mine, N'Chwaning mines, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa small-cabinet 8 x 4.5 x 4.5 cm A 1982 find, Rob Lavinsky tells me these were called 'cherry rhodos' at the time, due to the unique and beautiful color of the crystals. The crystals are sharp, densly packed and somewhat intergrown. The orientations of the crystals are quite irregular, with the result of making the specimen very sparkly overall - there are faces at many different angles across a wide range. The color is between the dark red of the 1977 pocket, and the brighter and more luminous red of a Nate's Pocket peice form the Sweet Home mine. Ex. Tom Hall collection, then Rob, another collector, back to Rob, and now me.
