546  Rhodochrosite Wolf Mine, Herdorf, Betzdorf, Siegerland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany miniature 4.6 x 3.1 x 1.5 cm Shale's Los Angeles dealer label. Rob: At one time, long ago, these rhodos were the cat’s meow for the species. They are now exceedingly rare in dealer’s stocks. This is a particularly fine example, featuring several clusters of red-orange, translucent, botryoids on a limonite matrix. the largest spherical cluster measures 1.5 cm across. This piece has FAR better color than you normally see on such German rhodochrosite specimens and for its display ease, I consider it quite desirable. It is probably over 125 years old! ----- Photos ©2006 Richard Geiger label Mineral Occurances
