561  Rhodochrosite Disc Around Geothite Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Department, Peru miniature 3.4 x 3.8 x 1.2 cm ex. Cal and Kerith Graeber Collection An amazingly unique piece, this Rhodo is a floater specimen, pristine all around except perhaps for a single bruise at one point around the rim, visible only with 10x magnification. The Rhodochrosite surrounds a core of black Geothite, tapering from thickest at the center of the disc, and tapering evenly out to a sharp edge with a gorgeous slightly-rough symmetry all around. The Rhodo is a deep rose color with good transparency. An intricate (and fascinating with magnification) stepping pattern on the crystal surfaces lends a juicy, satiny luster that just grabs the eye. ----- Photos ©2006 Richard Geiger label Mineral Occurances
