629  Quartz var. Citrine
Krystal Tips claims, Petersen Mountain (Hallelujah Junction), Washoe Co., Nevada, United States
small-cabinet  7 x 4 x 3 cm

Found by Richard Geiger, September 10, 2006, on his second day ever of field collecting.

The dig at Hallelujah Junction was, if I understand correctly, extremely fruitful. Pockets were being exposed at a prodigious rate. However, somehow, in all of the shuffle and excitement, my hand wasn't proving too hot. And while I was truely delighted at Janet's remarkable discovery on Saturday, it made me all the more ready to find something nice myself.

Fortune finally smiled on me near the end of the second and final (for me) day of digging. Foster had just made a pass with the trackhoe across a face a few yards down and around a corner from 'Janet's Pocket'. This swipe had laid open an entire sizable pocket, including a large plate of crystals, so the machine was done at that spot for a while while Joe and Ryan collected that one.

Eric pointed me in a promising direction a few feet down the wall, and as luck would have it, I had the thrill of getting down to the chopstick in what at first was detectable only as a small cavity of loose broken quartz shards, perhaps an inch across. It quickly proved to open up into a smallish but productive pocket. Of the contents, I like this one the best. While it may be overshadowed a bit by Janet's scepter, I am totally jazzed to have found this and to be able to put it into the collection. Thanks, everybody!
